  • Seahawks’ bid for national Div. III title comes up

Junior Brad Pung, an alternate captain, scored in the second overtime to lift the Wisconsin-based school to a 3-2, double-overtime victory over Salve Regina in the Division III national championship game on Saturday night at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Salve Regina (22-6-2), ranked No. 6 nationally, had several chances in the two overtime periods to win the first NCAA national championship in any sport in school history. But Pung’s goal, which came 9:42 into the second overtime, gave top-ranked St. Norbert (27-4-1) its fifth title since 2008.

Tanner Froese streaked down the right side for St. Norbert and dropped the puck for Pung near the right circle. His wrist shot beat Salve Regina goaltender Blake Wojtala for the game-winner.

Sticks and gloves went flying as the Green Knights found themselves in a familiar spot. They also won national titles in 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2014. St. Norbert lost in the final in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2016.

The last Division III title game that was decided in two overtimes was in 2010, when Norwich defeated St. Norbert, 2-1.

For Salve Regina, and only had played in one NCAA tournament game prior to this season. But behind first-year coach Zech Klann, it was the end of a remarkable run. The Seahawks had never been to a Division III Frozen Four, Salve defeated Nichols in the quarterfinals before dispatching Wisconsin-Stevens Point to advance to its first final.

Wojtala finished with 47 saves after stopping 55 shots the previous night against the Pointers in the semifinals. St. Norbert’s T.J. Black made 42 saves.

Dominick Sacco opened the scoring for St. Norbert, taking a pass in the slot in transition and beating Wojtala with 1:29 left in the opening period. It was Sacco’s 12th of the season and came after Salve Regina’s Cameron Russo was called for slashing.

A five-minute major penalty against Salve’s Danny Eruzione produced a goal for each side in the second period. The call against the Salve freshman initially was ruled a two-minute infraction, but after a review, it was upgraded. The Green Knights made the Seahawks pay early when Luke Davidson beat Wojtala on a shot from the point through traffic to push St. Norbert’s lead to 2-0 with 7:35 remaining in the second period.

With Eruzione still in the penalty box, the Seahawks cut the lead in half. Russo took a pass from Pat Thompson and fired from just inside the left circle, placing the puck over the left shoulder of Black to trim the deficit to 2-1 just over a minute after St. Norbert’s second goal. It was Salve’s seventh shorthanded goal of the season.

Salve Regina freshman Paul Boutoussov tied the score with nine minutes to go, spinning and whipping the puck past Black. It was part of a strong period from the Seahawks, collecting a Frankie Sullivan rebound, who held a 13-9 edge in shots.

Each team had a solid chance to end the game in the first overtime. St. Norbert’s Luke Davidson fired from the slot past Wojtala,Authentic Bryan Anger Jersey, and the Seahawks were able to clear it out of the zone., but the puck clanged off the left post

Eric Lipa of Salve attempted a shot that caromed off Black and bounced over the goaltender’s shoulder. It skidded past the post by about a foot.,Minutes later

Seattle is clearly in the process of rebuilding its secondary, the need to create depth at the position becomes more evident.,Authentic Lamar Miller Jersey, so adding yet another player to the mix only makes sense. Considering the fact corner Byron Maxwell has yet to be re-signed

not all Seahawks’ corners are truly made the same. An appropriate comparison for Smith would be the recently departed Jeremy Lane.,Taking a first glance at Smith,Womens Duane Brown Jersey, Smith is a tad undersized when compared to the frame of a “typical” Seahawks defensive back. However, it appears he does not seem to fit the “Seattle mold” head coach Pete Carroll prefers for his corners. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing in at 189 pounds

and less injury-prone version of Lane.,Lane had been Seattle’s long-term nickel corner,Authentic Johnathan Joseph Jersey, and since the Seahawks released him in mid-March they will certainly be looking for a replacement to fill his shoes. Jeremy Lane is 6-foot-0 and 190 pounds, cheaper, only one inch taller and one pound heavier than Smith. Lane and Smith also run similar 40 times – Lane with a 4.53-and Smith with a 4.57 – showing comparable speed for the position. It would seem the Seahawks have hope of Smith stepping in to become a younger

Although Smith may not have the height Seahawks corners usually have, Seattle has drafted eight players with the intent on having them play cornerback. All eight have had 32-inch arms.”,Authentic Xavier Su'a-Filo Jersey, where he does fit in is the fact he has 32-inch arms. His massive wingspan is par for the course when it comes to Seattle’s defensive backs. As Gregg Bell of the News Tribune writes: “Since Schneider and Carroll arrived to run the Seahawks in January 2010

Mike Tyson,The Seahawks cornerback position includes Shaquill Griffin, Justin Coleman, Neiko Thorpe, Akeem King and now, C.J. Smith. It remains to be seen if Seattle will make any more moves to bolster their secondary before the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Seahawks added to their defensive line depth by agreeing to terms with free agent end Marcus Smith Thursday.

Smith confirmed the news while a report from Josina Anderson of stated he agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $2.7 million. He is expected to officially sign in the next day or so.

who made him the 26th overall pick of the 2017 draft.,The Seahawks signed Smith last July after he was waived by the Eagles

Quenton Nelson and any of the quarterbacks.,What will the Giants do to replace Pierre-Paul? Womens Lamar Miller Jersey, Almost immediately, leap-frogging Saquon Barkley, there was talk of how N.C. State defensive end Bradley Chubb was suddenly the pick at No. 2 for them

But guess what: a day later, the greatest question mark on that side of the ball for Big Blue revealed itself: cornerback., Authentic Brian Cushing Jersey, the biggest void for the Giants to fill on defense is not Pierre-Paul. When Ross Cockrell signed a two-year deal worth nearly $7 million with the Carolina Panthers

Remember: team brass has talked this offseason about breaking bread with Apple and making him a part of things going forward - at least offering him the opportunity to prove last season's debacle in which he was called "a cancer" by Landon Collins and his actions earned a Week 17 suspension were blips in an unforgettable season.

Could Apple end up elsewhere? Sure, if Gettleman gets an offer, releasing the respected veteran earlier this month when the two sides could not come to an agreement on a reduction in his pay for 2018. Janoris Jenkins, but his presence here is valuable, especially at the moment. The Giants have parted ways with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, although as we saw with Pierre-Paul on Thursday, had his share of ups and downs in his second year last fall. He should be back, who earned All-Pro honors in his first season as a Giant,Womens Nick Folk Jersey,he owes it to himself to listen.

and Donte Deayon and Brandon Dixon return from last season.,After Jenkins, Teddy Williams and Curtis Riley in free agency, the cornerback depth is questionable. The Giants have signed B.W. Webb

Right now,Womens Bryan Anger Jersey,Womens Brian Cushing Jersey, who excelled in training camp last summer and had everyone in the organization predicting big things for him in 2017., none of those would appear to be a better option to start opposite Jenkins than Apple

That never materialized, the fallout from which lingered throughout the season. His run-in with Collins late in the year just compounded the problem.,Womens Johnathan Joseph Jersey, as the former Ohio State star was picked on early and dealt with off-the-field issues with his family

defensive coordinator James Bettcher and Co. He's got everything to prove,With the regime that drafted him fired, Apple is owed nothing from Gettleman, Shurmur,Authentic Duane Brown Jersey, and at this point, the Giants appear willing to give him a shot.

‘It’s clean. Let’s go. Let’s go.’ So that’s where we are.","It’s a new day., adding: "We had a nice visit. Eli came in and we talked for about 25 minutes to half an hour. Had a good visit. Broke bread so to speak. I told him," Gettleman said in reference to Apple at the Combine

as he was hit with a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy for performance-enhancing substances.,But as far as finding someone to account for Pierre-Paul's departure, the Giants have brought in some pieces and appear better suited to do that. Outside linebacker Kareem Martin and lineman Josh Mauro bring value to Bettcher's defense, though, having played for him with the Arizona Cardinals. Mauro won't be available once the regular season begins

and all of those could wind up asking Apple to play a far more significant role than anticipated a few months ago.,Gettleman has options
